Games are far more than a source of entertainment — they’re an important source of community for billions of people worldwide. From tabletop games to digital games like Counter Strike: Global Offensive and Echo Arena, games form an integral part of our culture and
have been bringing people together for generations. Games are also as diverse as the people who play them. At Facebook, we’re working hard to give the 2 billion people who use our platform every month access to the right content and community for them.
There’s a vibrant and active community built around games and gaming content, with millions of people tuning in to watch livestreams of their favorite players and personalities every month. From competitive esports to individual players sharing speed runs and commentary, there’s something for just about every type of fan.
To make it easier for people to find and follow gaming content, we launched a gaming video destination on Facebook — available at the short URL fb.gg — that aggregates live and prerecorded gaming video on Facebook in one place. People can discover gaming video on our new destination based on creators they follow and games they love. We’ll feature creators, esports competitions, and content from gaming industry events on fb.gg.
To help the ecosystem grow, and to inspire others, we are funding content from creators and esports that will also live on our gaming video destination.
We started Instant Games two years ago as a humble test with basketball and soccer games hidden behind easter egg emojis. And in that time, Instant Games have served up over 30 Billion game sessions played across Facebook, Messenger, and other surfaces, and that number continues to grow. Now with over 6,000 games on the platform, we've got games for every type of player.
As the Instant Games platform has gotten more sophisticated, so too has our developer community. We've been building tools that our developers have asked for to improve game discovery, increase engagement and retention, and drive monetization in a meaningful way.
Looking forward, we are planning to do even more: bringing Instant Games to more surfaces, better personalization for each player, and of course, more great games for players to enjoy. We couldn't have reached the two year milestone without all of the support from the highly passionate players and developers that make the Instant Games community what it is.
